Introducing IPMG's Employee Owner of the Month of November: Haley Kagay!
Haley was nominated for this award by BDDS. The nomination stated "I wanted to send you a note to say thank you for being such an amazing advocate today. The situation is a tough one and you were able to lead that team back to a strength-based perspective every single time the narrative became negative. Your facilitation to keep the team on track and understand what is expected without being confrontational is exactly how it should be done. Outstanding in every way! I believe that this individual has so much potential and you are making tremendous gains in helping her to recognize that and empower her."
Haley writes: First of all, I just have to say a huge thank you to the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services for nominating me for this. I have only had this individual for a short period of time and yet I felt like I had known her my whole life as soon as I met her. I was very drawn in by this individual and I wanted to help her gain some of her confidence in herself back! Her team and family have been amazing to work with and grow with in such a short period of time. I truly love this job and every moving part of it. Sometimes I feel like I am not working, but just helping out my many friends and neighbors.
It is a blessing to get to do this work every day and hear from different people, with different perspectives and help families and providers brainstorm on what works best for each individual person. I believe God led me straight to this field, and has led me to each individual that I have had a pleasure of working with!
I have been a direct support professional, I have case managed, ran group homes, and taught behavior support services and crisis protection classes. So, I have been in the field for 8 years all together. Every part of this job is rewarding, collaborative, challenging, and encouraging all in its own way. I hope to not only be able to advocate for others but to successfully teach them to advocate for themselves.
On a personal note, my husband and I are originally from Missouri and just recently moved to Indiana. We have been married almost 6 years, and have a little girl and little boy! We attend Park Chapel Church, here in Greenfield, IN. I sing in the praise band, I enjoy going to local coffee shops and reading, we love to travel to visit family and friends and of course going back to watch the Kansas City Chiefs with my husband is one of my favorite things to do!
