Division of Aging Waiver Resources

The Division of Aging Waiver program provides funding and supports to children and adults with medical needs and includes the Aged and Disabled Waiver (A&D) and the Traumatic Brain Injury Waiver (TBI).

The A&D Waiver provides an alternative to nursing facility admission for adults and persons of all ages with a disability. The waiver is designed to provide services to supplement informal supports for people who would require care in a nursing facility if waiver or other supports were not available. Waiver services can be used to help people remain in their own homes, as well as assist people living in nursing facilities return to community settings, such as their own homes, apartments, assisted living, or adult family care.

The Traumatic Brain Injury Waiver ensures that individuals with a traumatic brain injury receive appropriate services based on their needs and the needs of their families. Indiana defines a traumatic brain injury as a trauma that has occurred as a closed - or open-head injury caused by an external event that results in damage to brain tissue, with or without injury to other body organs. Indiana’s definition of TBI does not include birth trauma - related injury. Waiver participants must meet the minimal NF or ICF/IID LOC requirements and have a diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injury.

IPMG Division of Aging waiver Care Managers coordinate and integrate all services required in a participant’s person centered service plan, link participants to needed services, and ensure that participants continue to receive and benefit from services.

Both waivers are designed to assist participants to live as independently as possible in their own homes and to integrate seamlessly into their communities. To apply for these waivers, individuals must contact their local Area Agency on Aging.
