Meet Anamarie
Case Manager Kristen Deavers wrote in to tell us about Anamarie:
"Anamarie works as a Direct Support Professional at Paladin – Hobart location – four days each week. She began her employment there in 2011 when the facility was known as The ARC NWI. Anamarie used Vocational Rehabilitation services to obtain the job, and then received Extended (Follow-along) services from The ARC NWI. Her job duties entail laundry, assisting individuals with their lunches, and helping with arts and crafts.
When she began her job, she required prompts and supervision to improve her socialization with the individuals she works with. She also struggled to assist when needed. However, now Anamarie can be seen interacting with the clients, and she knows many of their dispositions and can offer personalized guidance. She had a follow-along job coach until June 2021 when the team agreed that Anamarie did not need this assistance any longer. According to her Supervisor at Paladin: 'She does well here with following directions. She comes to me whenever she has a problem - which is rare.'
Several years ago, Anamarie decided to create a monthly goal for herself: 'I want to learn how to create and do new things.' Each quarter, when the team meets to discuss her progress, she outdoes herself! She comes prepared to each meeting with a list of the new things she has done or fears she has conquered. When her Case Manager sees Anamarie at her job, she is confident and can be seen smiling with her co-workers and the individuals she works with. She likes helping with the seasonal themes at the Center – the crafts, bulletin boards, calendars, and decorations – and she likes to help organize when needed."
Congrats, Anamarie!
Meet Alyssa
Case Manager Mary Wirtz wrote in to tell us about Alyssa: "Alyssa Causey accomplished a huge goal she set for herself by self-publishing her own adult coloring book titled Painted Heart Horses Color and Create. Alyssa created all of the artwork herself. She has taken art classes for several years as well as teaching herself to use different digital art programs. Her coloring book features several blanks pages at the end of the book as she wanted to inspire and encourage others to find their own creativity through art by coloring, creating, and storytelling.
Alyssa also created her own YouTube channel several years ago called The Autism Elf the Stories from Her Heart. On her channel she creates stories through her artwork. She showcases this through speed drawing of different size and species of horses and centaurs. Her big goal is to become able to make a living through her art and she is looking to create a second coloring book to sell on Amazon later this year. Alyssa has a Facebook page called Painted Heart where she sells her art as well. She has done commissioned artwork of people's pets and also did a wall mural for a local gym."
Congrats, Alyssa!
